Back in August, Santuario de Misericordia church in Borja, Spain was in the news. They were planning to restore a painting of Jesus on their walls by a 19th-century painter named Elias Garcia Martinez . . . and things went horribly wrong.
--One of the parishioners, 85-year-old Cecilia Gimenez, decided to take it upon herself to restore the painting. But she didn't have ANY skills . . . and ended up making Jesus look like either a monkey or an Eskimo, depending on who you ask. She would sneak in in the middle of the night and paint.
--Her hilarious destruction of the painting made international news, and the photo spread all over the Internet. And because of that, tourists are apparently FLOCKING to the church to see the painting.
--So now, Cecilia is now demanding that the church PAY HER some of the money they've collected thanks to her painting. Seriously. She's even filed a COPYRIGHT case saying the painting is her work.
--The church has now hired legal counsel to prepare to fight Cecilia. There's no word on whether she's facing vandalism charges for what she did to the painting in the first place.
