Modern Family stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet were attempting to do something really great last night by headlining a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club in Kansas City UNTIL they ended up being TRAPPED inside the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel elevator for nearly AN HOUR when it broke down with them in it!

Thankfully, the local fire department managed to eventually come to their rescue and they only ended up being an hour late to the event.  They had fun with it on Twitter.

"I honestly handled being stuck in an elevator for 50min better than I thought. All @jesstyler did was pass wind."

Haaaa!  They sure had a good sense of humor about it.  Who thinks this will be written into an episode of Modern Family???
