  • Providing pediatric cancer patients with access to more clinical trials and new treatments than anywhere else in Minnesota. Many of the treatments now available to children with cancer were pioneered here at our National Center Institute-designated research facility, Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota. Our discoveries often become the standard of care for patients around the world.
  • Developing new therapies that improve cure rates and make treatments highly effective and safer for patients, including the ground-breaking development of a potential treatment for pediatric brain tumors, the number one cause of cancer deaths in children.
  • Elevating patient experience and care through innovative spaces and enhanced programs including integrative therapies while providing the best possible care to patients facing cancer right now.
  • Improving childhood cancer survivorship, helping more patients not only survive but thrive. The development of a mobile Survivorship App will improve childhood cancer survivors’ self-management of their health care needs, knowledge of the late effects of treatment, and provide personalized support and engagement from their care team across the life span.
  • Leading field-shaping treatment and management of cancer predisposition, genetic disorders that increase the risk of developing cancer. For example, NF1 syndrome is a relatively common inherited cancer predisposition syndrome. Our research have found that certain nutritional supplements could help delay or prevent tumor formation in NF1 patients.
  • Leveraging big data to make new discoveries, expanding our understanding of cancer causes and outcomes—and putting that knowledge to work for children and families. For example, our researchers are focused on better understanding the beginnings of Ewing sarcoma, a rare bone and soft tissue cancer, to more accurately target the disease with pharmaceutical or immunotherapy interventions.
  • Home to one of the first hospital based nature based therapists in the U.S. at Masonic Children’s Hospital, this program is helping hospitalized children to achieve healing, comfort and wellness.
